In fall 2019, I created a city identity system for Dublin, Ireland. This system is all based around a custom made typeface. During my last visit to Dublin, I discovered the artist group, Subset, and immediately started following their work. With this I quickly learned about the entire street art community within Dublin. This served as my main source of inspiration. I thought the contrast between the street art and the historic charm of the city was the perfect way to represent Dublin. To me, like most cities, Dublin as progressed with society in becoming more modern but the charm that people normally associate Ireland with is still very much so present. My goal for this project was to show a different side of Dublin people might not be familiar with while highlighting the street artists and their talent.
To further this city identity, I created multiple items of collateral. To play off the idea of Guinness, I created a set of pint glasses. Along with this, I adapted the typeface for shirts, stickers, and tote bags. To emphasize the relationship between this system and street art, I paired it with work that I enjoyed with the hopes of showing how this could be used with the art. Finally, I created a way to make the street art more visible by putting the work on their bus systems along with the type.
